[...] Still, I’d like to finish more books than I do, which is why I signed up for two reading challenges this year, a 50-book challenge at GoodReads, and a 100 book challenge at Every Girl Blog. That’s technically 150 books to finish this year (doubling up seems like cheating), and I’m going to keep track of them right here at Alchemy, just to save time.  You will find my 2010 reading log thus far in the left-hand sidebar, or you can visit it here. I know you’re going to start reviewing ones you finish, but I wonder…can you tell us which of the ones above were your faves?

Good question, Natalie! Fictionwise, I was most taken with A Madness of Angels and the Charlie Huston series (official title = The Joe Pitt Casebooks, and the first book is called Already Dead – read it last year and simply had to get the rest of them. Two words: vampire noir. I’m kind of a sucker for urban fantasy and horror).

Non-fictionwise, Devotion for the writing/concept, and Mennonite in a Little Black Dress for making me laugh so hard I cried.

ok, I need to add Already dead to my to read list on Goodreads. Then I wonder why that list grows so much faster than my (finished) Read list!

Joan, LOL – I hear you. Every time I talk to a colleague, my reading list gets longer!! It’s crazy. And Goodreads is like a reading drug – everybody’s reading such cool stuff! It kills me that there’s only so much time to read in a life…;)

Have you followed the tech/antitech talk on Will Unwound? Lots are saying the e-readers help them find more time to read, in lines, etc. I’m still trying to figure out why so many seem to have 3 plus types of e-readers though.

Joan, I sort of skimmed that. I’m really glad that the technology exists for people who can afford it, and for whom it works – after all, we have to serve ALL of our patrons. But my natural sympathies lie with the people who cannot afford $180 for an e-reader. And I have some serious ethical issues with the way some of these products are manufactured, including the use of conflict metals, and the treatment of Chinese workers, some of whom die while making our shiny gizmos.
