Leigh Anne Vrabel just celebrated her seven-year service anniversary with the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, an occasion she chose to salute by gathering database statistics and consuming a chocolate-peanut-butter brownie. She doesn’t blog very much these days because she’s knee-deep in all sorts of stuff and things. However, when she does make time to write, she is more inclined to take a philosophical bent toward the business of library life and service than a nuts-and-bolts primer on what she’s doing. Throughout her library career she’s been an information desk clerk, a readers’ advisor, a reference librarian, an emerging technologies maven, a team leader, a number-cruncher, a collection developer, a meeting-attender, a book reviewer, and a presentation-giver. In the future, she would like to be a leader, a manager, a library director, and a goat farmer, not necessarily in that order. When she’s not pondering library science, she’s probably reading one of the five million books checked out on her library card, gaming, writing poetry, or rocking out to some ridiculous YouTube video.

Leigh Anne,
You’ve probably heard by now that Sunday is my last day here . . . at least for a while. I really felt–and so did Teddy, which is more important–that i wasn’t spending enough time with him, so I’ve decided to put off second-job-hood for a while. My degree won’t expire, but Teddy’s wanting to hang out with me likely will.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve loved working here, and I’ve met some great people that I don’t want to lose touch with. Feel free to check out my blog (I just branched out on my own yesterday, and am enjoying the freedom) or send an email when you have a chance.
Take care!
Gina

Hi Gina – I hadn’t heard, but thanks for the update – you will be much missed, and I will definitely make time to check out the new blog.

“Her primary objectives for professional blogging are to experiment with 2.0 apps/services, discuss issues of professional interest, and network with other librarians who are trying to figure out how to create a brave new library world without discarding anything valuable and precious.”
This is fantastic!

Thanks, Woeful! Just a librarian trying to make sense of it all, like the rest of us.

Leigh Anne,
Since I don’t find an email address, I’ll use this route:
I’d like to request permission to reuse all or portions of posts from this blog, always with attribution and links to the original, in articles in the PALINET Leadership Network, PLN. I usually remember to email people when I’ve used a major portion of a post.
At the moment, I’m enhancing the composite article “Innovation notes” with portions of your November 28, 20089 post on Innovation, squeaky wheels and Tom Sawyer (in addition to portions of Helene Blowers’ post and Steven Bell’s post…), but I’d like the freedom to use the entire post if appropriate–and other good leadership-related thoughts from your blog.
Could you send email to waltcrawford@gmail.com or crawford@pln.org if this is OK? (You’d be joining a growing list–you’d be the thirtieth “explicit permission” liblogger to date.)
Thanks!
